An Interdenominational Church
That is open to all |
 |
History
of Treasure Lake Church
Treasure Lake Church was founded on Sunday, May
5, 1972 by a group of campers meeting at
Treasure Lake Ski Lodge. The church was
organized by Rev. James M. Snyder and his wife
Eleanor, and consisted of sixty-five original
members. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania issued
a charter in January 1973. Services were held on
the ski slope or in the Ski Lodge for several
years until the congregation made the decision
to build.
The developer of Treasure Lake donated the site
of the original John DuBois log cabin (later
used as a Teen Lodge) for the church building
and grounds. The 4.7 acres of land was to be
exclusively for church activities and carried
the stipulation that it would be the only church
at Treasure Lake and would serve people of all
denominations, hence the original name, Treasure
Lake Interdenominational Church.
William J. Foltz, an architect and resident of
Treasure Lake planned the building and helped
oversee the project. The groundbreaking ceremony
was held on Sunday, September 16, 1979 with
members pledging their time and talents to the
project. Although finished earlier, the building
was not dedicated until July 4, 1982, with Rev.
Dick Burns as guest speaker.
The founder and first pastor of Treasure Lake
Church, Rev. James M. Snyder served until 1988
when he retired. Rev. John W Martin served as
pastor from 1988 until 2004 when he left the
ministry to enter the field of evangelism. On
Sunday, August 1, 2004, Rev. Richard (Dick)
Whitaker became the third, and present pastor,
of the church. 2008 was a year of
excitement for our church as we expanded our
facilities to enable us to better accommodate
our youth, Bible study, and Sunday school
activities as well as increase the capacity of
our sanctuary to enable as many as 300 people to
worship in our weekly services.
The first
phase of this work was completed in October of
2008 and we are now planning for a phase II
activities. We invite you to join us in
our beautiful new sanctuary as we continue to
give all the glory and praise to God for what he
continues to do at Treasure Lake Church.
Our Statement of Faith
We believe in one God who exists
eternally in three persons of divine nature —
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each person of the
Godhead being fully God and equal in all the
attributes of God. (Matthew 28:18 to 20.)
We believe the Bible is the Word of God,
inspired by the Holy Spirit who guided and
directed the men who wrote and preserved its
truth through every generation. The Bible is
the only authority for faith and practice in the
church and the believer’s life. (II Timothy
3:16-17.) We believe Jesus Christ is the
only Savior of mankind and that man is a sinner
in need of a Savior. He fulfilled prophecy by
being born of a virgin, leading a sinless life,
being crucified for mankind, rising from the
dead and by His promise to come again. (II
Corinthians 5:17 to 21 & Romans 10:9 to 13.)
Our Mission Statement
We are committed to accepting and
sharing God’s love. We welcome and accept
visitors as a vital part of our ministry. We
conduct interdenominational worship services
without compromising the Word of God. We are
committed to community outreach in real and
practical ways and support missions at home and
abroad with prayer and financial support.
Treasure Lake Church accepts dual
memberships so that seasonal residents can join
the church while maintaining membership in their
home churches. Members pledge their loyal
devotion, faithful stewardship and diligent
service, in Treasure Lake and the surrounding
areas, so that the name of the Lord will be
glorified and His kingdom be advanced, through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Our Location
The yahoo map will indicate Rip Tide Road - but
our location is between Rip Tide and Bay Road -
you can enter from Bay Road to the church which
will be at the top of the hill.
